Bullying! Fun?
Have you ever been bullied? You'd be lying if you said you haven't. And if somehow you actually haven't and normally you're the one that bullies, you're yet to be bullied.
There are bullies everywhere; from schools to offices, to social media. You'll always find people seeking pleasure in playing with other's vulnerability. This act, of course, makes the bully feel good for a while keeping s/he away from their troubles of life but puts a very bad impression on the victim's head. Unfortunately, not everyone can find their way out of bullies.
Whenever we hear "bullying", our brain automatically shows us the picture of a school kid being tormented by his friends. Then, we begin to think about how we were bullied too in school. So, let's begin with that.
It's common and fun for school kids to rag classmates and juniors but... not when you're the victim. Both physical and mental bullying makes a kid vulnerable than he already is, or though he never was. Bullying makes the victim grow a deep thought in his subconscious that he's not good enough. Also, bullying builds a sense of inferiority in his mind. Most kids don't talk about this with their parents or teachers and have a bad school experience. Some can't take it and do some bad things, even suicide.
The history of bullying dates back to when our ancestors segregated themselves based on cast and color and later they were again divided by capitalism. Back then, bullying was mandatory. You had to bully in order to show people their actual place in society. Now we don't see that too often but the improvisation of this act is everywhere.
I was bullied too back in school. I am "Sah", which unless is prefixed by "Bir Bikram", is Dhoti. I am from Janakpur and I had this Madhesi tone growing up. After continuous use of Fair and Handsome for a very long time (just kidding), I was able to free myself from the nickname "Kaale". But throughout my school life, I was a Dhoti. My friends used to stress on "Jay Jay Nepala" looking at me while singing anthem. Whenever teachers used to say how India's bad, I used to get slaps in the head from the back. Whenever I lost my wicket in a cricket match, I would hear someone saying Vag indian sala nepal ma k khelxas. I used to feel so bad. Almost everyone I talked to used to mock me. And the new friends I made would mock me eventually seeing others humiliate me.
It was when I got a suggestion from a friend that I got past it. I used to run after anyone who'd hit me or mock me but it didn't help. So, I stopped caring at all. It was hard as when I didn't care, they'd go up to as mocking my family but yet I didn't care. And I realized, I am much more than being a puppy who they can pat anytime. So, first I stopped bullying the ones I used to. And then I started laughing along and agreeing with jokes made on me.
This transformed me from Dhoti who everyone humiliated to Dhoti who many liked. I made awesome friends eventually and had no bad relationship with anyone.
Bullying these days is best seen on social media where average people are daily seen pointing the bad aspects of powerful celebrities and bitching about them just to get away with their own tension. Some days ago I saw a video of a 82 yr old woman called "Skyrim Grandma" who plays games and puts videos decided to quit after she couldn't handle the hate comments.
Whether you are rich or poor, white or black, senior or junior, everyone should be treated equally. Everyone wants to live a normal life.. Let's stop bullying others and treat everyone the same to end this bullying cycle. Let's start taking credibility for our problems than bullying others to forget it.
Yet, there will always be bullies around because there will always be problems. And as long as there are problems, people will always try to find fun for relief with other's vulnerabilities. So, if you can, try being in a good circle. If not, don't let somebody bring down your confidence no matter if it's with your color, facial structure, where you come from, what you do, your height, your weight, or anything. Know your worth.
If you were bullied and want to share your story, leave a comment here or the post that led you here. :)
